Data, Information, Knowledge

Data: A known facts about data, separate objects or events in applications
  • It is raw,unorganized facts that needs to be processed
  • Until it is organized in proper way.


For example:
1) A record about a patient may include patient details, such as the name, date of birth, contact address, and measurements of body weight and blood pressure.
2) Score of student is one piece of data.

Information: data is processed, organized, structured or presented in a given context so as to make it useful, it is called information.
  • Information is processed data.Data does not depend upon information depends upon data. 
For example:
1) Average score of a class or of the entire school is information that can be derived from the given data.
2) An organized table for all patient records.


Knowledge:
Human understanding of a subject matter that has been acquired through proper study and experience.
  • In short it is understanding of information based on its perceived importance or relevance to a problem area
  • Knowledge is usually based on learning, thinking, and proper understanding of the problem area.
  • Knowledge is not information and information is not data.
  • Knowledge is derived from information in the same way information is derived from data.
